U.S. Rep. Kendrick B. Meek Regarding Independence Day
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Rep. Kendrick B. Meek (D-FL) released the following statement regarding Independence Day:
"On this day, we reflect on our freedom and liberties, our security, our many blessings, and celebrate our nation’s 233rd celebration of Independence Day. While commemorating the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776 among our closest friends and family, it is important that we understand that now the current generation can look back upon those powerful, resolute words with much pride, appreciation and gratitude.
"It is my hope that during this grand, national celebration of our nation's beginning, both Florida and the entire nation will celebrate Independence Day today with a sense of optimism for the future of our nation, as well as a respect for the history that has brought us to this point."
U.S. Rep. Kendrick B. Meek represents the 17th Congressional District of Florida which includes parts of Miami-Dade and Broward Counties. He serves as the lone Florida Democrat sitting on the House Committee on Ways and Means.
