U.S. Rep. Kendrick B. Meek (D-FL) Congratulates Two Elementary Schools for Technology Gifts They Received from the Miami Passport Agency
MIAMI GARDENS, FL – Congressman Kendrick B. Meek (D-FL) sent his congratulations to North County Elementary School and Toussaint l'Ouverture Elementary School, which are both located in the 17th Congressional District, on receiving a total of over $55,000 worth of modern computer equipment including flat screens and top of the line modems from the U.S. Department of State's Miami Passport Agency.
"I am very grateful for the generous gifts from the Miami Passport Agency given to two schools in the 17th Congressional District. The flat screen monitors, high-speed central processing units and other modern computer equipment will most definitely benefit the students at North County and Toussaint l'Ouverture Elementary Schools. South Florida is very grateful to have such a giving and benevolent team such as the Miami Passport Agency who truly care for our children," said Congressman Meek.
"As a result of our recent move to our new offices in the Omni Center, we left a considerable amount of computer equipment in our old offices that became available to schools through the Federal Government's Computers for Learning Program," added Ryan M. Dooley, Regional Director of the Miami Passport Agency. "The U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Consular Affairs, Miami Passport Agency, is very pleased these schools in Opa-Locka and Little Haiti were able to obtain the free technology for the benefit of their students."
The program, Computers for Learning (CFL), was created by the U.S. General Services Administration in order to encourage and promote the reuse of computers. The CFL program's ambitious goal is to make modern computer technology an integral part of every classroom so that every child has the opportunity to be educated to his or her full potential.}
U.S. Rep. Kendrick B. Meek represents the 17th Congressional District of Florida which includes parts of Miami-Dade and Broward Counties. He serves as the lone Florida Democrat sitting on the House Committee on Ways and Means.
