Representative Meek Hosts
"Ten Weeks to Homeownership" Conference

Meek Aims to Help First-Time Home Buyers
Saturday, March 17, 2007 9 am to 3 pm

MIAMI GARDENS, FL – U.S. Rep. Kendrick B. Meek wants to help people own their own homes and is sponsoring a major homeownership fair at Florida Memorial University on Saturday, March 17, 2007, from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.

"You should come to this event if you ever wanted to own your own home but thought you couldn't, if you are thinking of buying your own home but first want to learn more about it, or if you have questions about what you can afford,” said Meek, who represents North Dade and South Broward counties. “All the information you will need to buy a home will be available to you at the fair, such as how to get the best financing and how to find a good house to buy.”

Florida Memorial University is located at 15800 NW 42nd Avenue in Miami Gardens; the Conference will take place in the A. Chester Robinson Gymnasium.

Congressman Meek will deliver remarks at 10 a.m. during the opening plenary session along with event co-sponsors County Commissioner Barbara J. Jordan, District 1 and Vice-Mayor Oscar Braynon II, City of Miami Gardens.

The Ten Weeks to Homeownership Conference is completely free of charge, open to everyone, and hosted in conjunction with W.O.W. (With Ownership Wealth) – the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation Homeownership Initiative, Miami-Dade County, Rotary Club of Opa-Locka, City of Miami Gardens and the Dade County Alumnae Chapter of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

The event will bring together prospective homeowners with financial institutions, community-based organizations, and credit counseling agencies offering a wide variety of assistance to first-time homebuyers.

Congressman Meek hosted a previous “Ten Weeks to Homeownership” Conference on August 26 at Nova Southeastern University.

Free refreshments will be provided to all attendees.

Congressman Kendrick B. Meek, the lone Floridian on the powerful Ways and Means Committee, represents the 17th Congressional District of Florida, which includes parts of Miami-Dade and Broward Counties.
