Statement of
U.S. Rep. Kendrick B. Meek (D-FL)
On Voting To Comply With PAYGO (Pay-As-You-Go) Rules

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Kendrick B. Meek issued the following statement following his vote in favor of PAYGO (Pay-As-You-Go) Compliance:

"Today I voted with the House Democratic Leadership to end the era of reckless deficit spending. To take the fiscally irresponsible route and enact an unpaid-for, one-year patch that tacks a $50 billion price tag on our children and grandchildren is unfair. President Bush has taken this nation down the highway of fiscal irresponsibility and the off ramp is closed for construction. He has put Members of this legislative body in a corner giving us no options but to remain in the red and pursue a fiscally irresponsible course. By enacting an AMT patch without an offset, an additional $50 billion is now added to the deficit and that debt now belongs to the American public."

U.S. Rep. Kendrick B. Meek represents the 17th Congressional District of Florida which includes parts of Miami-Dade and Broward Counties. He serves as the lone Floridian sitting on the House Committee on Ways and Means and also sits on the House Armed Services Committee.
